Rookie Record

Sharon, tell us a little bit about yourself!

“I grew up in the care of my aunt; she was the one who first instilled in me a sense of hard work and determination. Since 2010, HHFL has supported me through high school and I feel very blessed. Although I am quiet and shy, I shine when it comes to home science and the arts. When I’m not doing crafts, you’ll find me waitressing at a local restaurant!”

What does going to College or University mean to you?

“The reason why I want to go to College is to get the basic knowledge and gain the chance to pursue my dream career, which is the field of banking and finance. This opportunity would mean the world to me!”

What inspired you to choose your dream career path?

“I feel that today’s world is growing rampantly economically and the financial sector in Kenya, in particular, is emerging. I am inspired by this growth and I am motivated to be among those who contribute to the efficient running of the finance sector.”

Why do you deserve this opportunity?

“I have always wanted to pursue the finance and banking sector. I like money and want to make lots of it! As a woman, I deserve the chance to go to College because I am committed to my goals and feel confident that I will break through to a better life once I gain the marketable skills. I know I have what it takes and I want to work alongside all the powerful men, and be just as powerful myself!”

If you could walk in someone else’s shoes for one day, who would you choose and why?

“If I would walk in someone’s shoes for a day, I would choose the founders of big financial firms like Sacco’s, Cooperatives and banks at large. I would love to know what their daily lives are like, what motivates them and how they make the big decisions. It is a huge responsibility and I am curious how they handle the stress and pressure.”
