A life full of new opportunities

A life full of new opportunities

Written by Charles, HHFL youth working as an intern

Charles has begun interning with Asilia at Rekero Camp in the Masai Mara. He is training in the kitchen as an assistant.

I am very happy to report that my 4-week internship in Rekero Camp has been amazing so far. I have learnt many new things within a short time. I started my internship in the Mess department where I learnt to set a table within one day. I also know how to serve different drinks using the right glasses. I have also been in the Guide department, where I have gone for full game drives for four consecutive days. It was my first time to explore Masai Mara which gave me an opportunity to see the Big Five and also learn about different types of plants and birds. I also know many types of birds.

My colleagues have been very supportive of me and are always willing to train me and through that I learn new things every day. They have accepted me as part of their team and also as their brother. Before I came to Rekero my world was narrow and I was only focused to one goal of doing a course in Sales and Marketing but for now I see this life differently which is full of many opportunities.

I thank Hanne Howard Fund and the Asilia family for giving me giving me this opportunity to train. My stay has been very nice although the four weeks are almost over.  I would like to stay for longer and get to learn more things and am asking if possible my Internship to be extended,

Asante sana!

There is nothing that makes us more proud than seeing our children and youth success on their own. With the right amount of support and encouragement, anything is possible! See how you can help here.
